Abstract

Research by the United Nations (UN) indicates that the global population could reach 9.8 billion by 2050, which requires a significant increase in food production. In this scenario, the resilience of the food system is essential, and agroforestry systems (AFS) stand out for promoting biodiversity and the coexistence of different species. These systems are essential to guarantee food security, improve life in rural areas, and become a sustainable alternative to climate change. Syntropic agriculture, which is based on ecological succession, has gained prominence for its ability to replicate natural processes, resulting in dynamic and sustainable management of agroecosystems. The “AGROFLORESTAR” project was created to combine student training with the dissemination of knowledge about syntropic agriculture and agroecology, promoting active learning, involving students in a practical and theoretical process on sustainable agricultural systems, integrating concepts of rural entrepreneurship, sustainability, agroecology and environmental education, with the opportunity to learn about biodiversity, sustainable management and food production. The implementation of an Agroforestry System at the Antônio Nogueira da Fonseca State School – Jamic Extension, in Terenos, Mato Grosso do Sul, will allow students to experience the complexity and challenges of these production systems. Practical experience is crucial for the training of future professionals capable of disseminating knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices. In addition, the project seeks to promote food security, the development of student leadership and collaboration with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), transforming the school and the community into living laboratories of learning and social innovation.
