Abstract

The objective of this research was to compare the diversity and similarity of existing fruit species
in urban and rural agroforesty backyards in three municipalities in the western part of the
state of Pará. 17 quintals were evaluated in the urban area and 17 quintals in the rural area
and some information was collected, Such as the size of the agroforestry yard (m²) and fruit
species. Diversity was calculated using the Shannon-Weaver (H’) indices and the floristic similarity
between the backyards of the two areas was calculated by the Jaccard index. Banana
and Açai were the most abundant species in urban and rural areas, respectively. The diversity
(H’) for the urban area was 2,94 while for the rural area it was 2,72. The agroforestry quintals
of the areas in question are highly diverse, showing great similarity among themselves (52,6%).
