Abstract

A wide range of species are used by human communities for different functions. Multiple-use species exhibit diverse characteristics that contribute significantly to sustainable development, provide several ecosystem services, increase food security, and support economic resilience. In this study, we aim to present information on the benefits and uses of trees present in the urban streetscapes of Anastácio, MS. To this end, we conducted a survey of the trees present on 35 streets in the city, in October 2024. We recorded 1,999 trees, distributed in 100 species, 79 genera, and 35 families. Fifteen species are considered aromatic, 60 are edible, 91 are ornamental, and 98 are medicinal. Thus, the urban forest can provide diverse experiences (of colors, odors, flavors, textures and well-being) with nature in the urban environment, offer multiple resources and contribute to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals. The city offers interesting opportunities to increase the production capacity of healthy food, an urban design that can be combined with agroecological principles.
