Abstract

The present paper aims to describe the experience of a family in process of agroecological
transition and sale of its products through organic baskets, located in the city of Santa Maria,
central region of Rio Grande do Sul. With the study of experience it was possible to diagnose
some central issues: 1- The process of agroecological transition in regions with a privileged
ecosystem, such as case of family’s ownership, are faster and less complex; 2- The agroecological
transition does not only depend on ecosystemic, technical and knowledge issues, since
in the case of the family the limitation of labor ends up determining the use of chemical inputs;
3- The sale through basket reaches a group of conscious consumers who are looking for higher
quality food, but prefer the convenience of receiving products at home, this is a market
with potential for expansion.
