Abstract

The Ara Poty Project promotes the integration of teaching, research, and community outreach, aiming to strengthen the relationship between the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) and the Bororó Indigenous Village in Mato Grosso do Sul. The primary goal is to provide quality and equitable education, with a focus on environmental education and the promotion of Indigenous entrepreneurship, addressing issues such as basic sanitation and waste management.Activities include the establishment and maintenance of a community garden, the implementation of composting systems, and the delivery of educational workshops using customized teaching materials. These actions aim to foster agroecological practices and raise awareness of environmental sustainability, empowering the community to adopt innovative and self-sustaining solutions. The outcomes encompass community adherence to sustainable practices, the development of entrepreneurial skills, and the creation of a collaborative environment that values both academic knowledge and traditional wisdom. Despite challenges such as adverse climatic conditions and limited resources, the project has demonstrated significant social and environmental impact. In conclusion, initiatives like this are essential for promoting sustainable development, community autonomy, and cultural preservation, thereby strengthening the ties between the university and society.
