Agroecological transition in family agriculture: an experience report on Araçá farm in the Municipality of Cruz das Almas- BA

Technical monitoring and agroecological practices were carried out at Fazenda Araçá in the
municipality of Cruz das Almas-BA, from April to July 2016, on the observation of students from
the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) of the Center for Agrarian Sciences, Environmental
and Biological (CCAAB). The technical follow-up aimed to empower farmers in the
process of transition from the conventional agriculture model to an ecologically based family
farming, promoting agroecology in this construction process. By adopting the agroecological
model farmers started to produce in a consortium system and discarded the use of chemical
inputs, producing healthier foods. The importance of the technical guidelines and services provided
was highlighted, as they contributed to maximize productivity and promote an ecological
and sustainable production model.
