Abstract

This experience report was carried out through activities carried out at the Mateira Settlement in Paraíso das Águas/MS and aimed to analyze the socioeconomic conditions of the settlers and conduct a workshop on composting organic waste. The work was carried out in two stages: first, by inviting the families of the settlers to participate in the project. Those who accepted were given a socioeconomic questionnaire, which also contained questions related to the use and disposal of organic waste from the property. In the second stage, a brief theoretical presentation on composting was made, as an important agroecological technique, and a practical workshop was held with organic waste from the properties themselves. In this study, it was possible to better understand the reality of the settlers and their perceptions regarding the use of waste from their property. The workshop made it possible to exchange experiences among the participants and encourage the use of agroecological practices, such as the use of organic waste, which is abundant on the properties and in the region, promoting greater environmental awareness among them.
