Abstract

Climate change is a reality, and confronting it requires individual and collective efforts so that the planet can continue to provide sufficient support for its population. Collective actions have the challenge of bringing people and organizations together in a common direction; what can be common must prevail over private interests. This experience report seeks to tell about the construction of partnerships without which it would not have been possible to contract the project, which has major objectives and the possibility of involving family farming in the carbon market. Upon learning about the program developed by the ACORN RABOBANK platform, APOMS – the Association of Organic Producers of Mato Grosso do Sul saw the possibility of joining this important economic, environmental, social and sustainability strategy in the face of climate challenges. Agroforestry systems, the target of the ACORN RABOBANK program, have great advantages for Family Farming in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which in turn has objectives linked to carbon neutrality by 2030. Thus, in alliance with professionals from UFGD – Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados with technical responsibility for the construction of the proposal, the state government through SEMADESC and its structures of action in the area of Technical Assistance and the Cresol Centro Sul RS/MS Credit Cooperative were aligned to make the proposal viable, which was consolidated in the AGROFLORESTAR MS Project – Carbon Neutral, with the objective of implementing 2,000 hectares of agroforestry systems in areas of Family Farmers in Mato Grosso do Sul.
