Abstract

Raising pedigree chickens in your backyard is a very good activity, ecological and at the same time generates some more resources, which help in the local economy. It generates a source of protein (eggs and meat) to improve the local food supply, it also helps to improve the quality of backyard poultry in your community, introducing selected genetics to make improvements, adding to the qualities of local poultry types. It is an ecological activity that allows reusing materials to make poultry accessories, and it is also a controller of many pests and diseases generated by insects that are consumed by the hens.
