Abstract

The use of mulch in the cultivation of vegetables allows for a more sustainable management,
becoming an important technique for the agroecological transition of the producer. The objective
of this work was to evaluate the incidence of spontaneous plants under different coverages
dead in the edaphoclimatic conditions of the municipality of Paragominas-Pa. The work was
carried out at the Federal Rural University of Amazonia - Paragominas Campus. The materials
used as mulch were, panicum grass, rice straw, star grass, wood sawdust and control treatment
(without cover) in randomized blocks with four replicates. The evaluated characteristic was the
incidence of spontaneous plants. The dead cover showed to be efficient in the control of spontaneous
plants, reducing their incidence, mainly in sawdust cover. Dead toppings are an alternative
for producers in the region, since the materials are relatively cheap and easy to obtain.
