The State Network of Agroecological Seeds of Rio de Janeiro: Weaving partnerships and knowledge through agroecology

The production and conservation of seeds from family agriculture is a practice that assures the
history of the farmer embedded in a propagating material that goes beyond generations and
that guarantees the food security of the family and is also responsible for the production of 70%
of the food consumed in Brazil. Therefore, the production of healthy seeds and quality and the
conservation of these are key factors in this process. In this sense, this article aims to report on
the experience of the State Agroecological Seeds Network of Rio de Janeiro (RESA), woven
in 2014 through joint efforts between the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ),
Embrapa Agrobiologia, Pesagro- Rio de Janeiro, the Ministry of Livestock and Supply, EMATER-
RIO, Fazendinha Agroecológica Km 47, and the Agroecological Association of Teresópolis
(AAT) to support, train community seed banks and train farmers and Organic seeds.
