Abstract

The reservoir of the Luís Eduardo Magalhães Hydroelectric Power Plant caused several impacts,
both environmental and social, due to the spatial changes through expropriation and the
relocation of the riverine communities of the Tocantins river to resettlement. This paper reports
the experiences of the agroforestry quintals of the Mariana resettlement during the Master’s
Degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences by the author and the components of UNITAS
Agroecológica. Considering the great importance of these quintals, especially in food security
and in ensuring a balanced environment, it is important to highlight the need for further studies
with the agroforestry quintals in the state of Tocantins. It is essential to know the potential of
these agroecological environments to promote new movements of extension entities and technical
support, as well as public policies regarding health and the environment.
