Abstract

Family farming is a social category with important characteristics as regards the diversified and
safe production of food. However, farmers face many challenges, including difficulty in generating
income, fair trading and access to markets. Given this, the combination of short circuits with
agroecological-based production favors the creation of alternative marketing networks and the
strengthening of the local economy. It is in this context, in September 2016, emerge in Muriaé –
‘Zona da Mata’, MG the network named ‘Saúde e Sabor da Serra’. The Network currently coordinates
32 agroecological and transitional producers in the municipalities of Muriaé, Miradouro,
Rosário da Limeira and Barão de Monte Alto and 44 consumers. It is an innovative initiative
capable of enhancing human work and (re) signifying the relationship between consumers and
producers through the links between the production and consumption of healthy foods.
