Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the effect of the cultivation of different cover crop species on
the emergence of spontaneous plants during the cycle of the onion during seven years in
onion agroecological SPDH. The experiment was installed in 2009, with six treatments (control
(spontaneous vegetation); Oat-black; rye; Turnip forage; Forage turnip + rye and forage turnip
+ black oat) and eight replicates. In April of each year, the winter species were sown and the
evaluations carried out during the cycle of the onion. The residues of the cover crops has the
greatest effects on the suppression of the spontaneous species at the beginning of the cycle
of the onion. Black oat and rye has the lowest incidence of spontaneous plants at the end of
the onion cycle.
