Abstract

The attendance of the assumptions contained in the New Brazilian Forest Code (Law No.
12.651/2012) requires searching for strategies and native plant species that meet the demand
for restoration and environmental adequacy of rural properties. In this way, knowing the location
of nurseries and the set of available native species represents an important response to
the fulfillment of these environmental obligations. The aim of this work was to geolocalize the
nurseries in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina registered in the RENASEM/
MAPA system and mapping the distribution of them. The state of Rio Grande do Sul counts
on 310 registered nurseries, presenting a great concentration in the mesoregion Metropolitan
Region of Porto Alegre (21 in the Municipality of Pareci Novo). For the state of Santa Catarina,
545 nurseries were located, showing a high concentration in the Vale do Itajaí and Northern
Catarinense mesoregions (60 in the Municipality of Rio do Oeste and 32 in Laurentino).
