The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris Linneaus) is cultivated throughout the national territory,
its production is mostly linked to family farmers, but also large-scale production. Organic
/ agroecological beans are a crop that has a growing demand by Brazilians, even with prices
that can cost up to 40% more expensive than conventional beans. This study aimed to promote
a test among bean varieties cultivated by family farms in the south of Minas Gerais in a
system of cultivation with agroecological principles, in order to indicate which variety would be
the most productive for the region. The experiment was carried out from March to May 2015 at
the IFSULDEMINAS Campus - Campus Inconfidentes (Agroecology and Organic Production
sector). As a result, it can be verified that the variety denominated ‘Pintadinho’ presented better
performance when compared to the others.
