Extension and rural communication for agroecological development in Mercês city, MG

Abstract

The finality of this report is to present the experiences of the extension project of the Institutional
Support Program for Extension (PIAEX), 2016 edition, of the Rio Pomba campus of the
Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of the Minas Gerais Southeast, which
in association the Non-Govermental Organization Socioambiental Ecovida, from Mercês city,
sought attend family farmers. After to know the local demand, the objective of this project was
guide and train family farmers interested in agroecological production system and organic,
in addition the organize in the creation of a Social Control Organization (SCO) to offer theirs
organic products to the local community. The time project was of 5 months, which it made
impossible to follow each farmer engaged in project. In addition, it is necessary to know better
the demand and local reality to attend all the common expectations of farmers group, and even
so, it was possible identify specific points and develop mitigating actions. The knowledge of the
local reality will contribute to the development of future projects.
