There are many methods to measure soil quality, from different perspectives (physical, chemical
and biological) being the chemical analysis the prefered one of the conventional agriculture. To
value the soil from the holistic view of agroecology is to consider other attributes, being thatonly
chemical analysis leads us to propose amendments in the same sense, but the physical
analysis leads us to consider other practices (mainly cultural) to improve soil characteristics and
quality for agriculture. The method created in this paper is based mainly on ethnopedology as a
source of ancestral knowledge, in a dialogue of knowledge with peasants. These different methods
of evaluation have been collected in this document as a complete tool for farmers in the
evaluation and deep knowledge of the soils in which they work, which was called “The first aid
kit for the farmer” (Orellana, 2009), which also reduces the cost of expensive laboratory tests.
