Abstract

Manipueira is a liquid obtained of smashed cassava roots during the production of the flour.
Spontaneous plants are species that grow themselves without being cultivated. The objective
of this present study was to evaluate the effect of manipueira on biomass production of spontaneous
plants. The experiment was carried out, from May to July, 2011. Was utilized randomized
block design with eight treatments [T1: no manipueira – control, T2: 1 L.m-2 of manipueira
weekly, T3: 2 L.m-2 weekly, T4: 1 L.m-2 biweekly, T5: 2 L.m-2 biweekly, T6: 1 L.m-2 monthly, T7: 2
L.m-2 monthly, T8: 3 L.m-2 monthly], and four blocks, with 12 m² each. Manipueira was applied
diluted with water in 1:1 proportion. Were measured dry biomass (g). Application of manipueira
on the soil or vegetation did not cause apparent phytotoxicity and influenced significantly biomass
production and dry biomass of spontaneous plants. There is some indicative that it can
be used in recovery of degraded soils.
