Evaluation of the consumer market of stingless native bees products in Tefé city, Amazonas state

The native bees are important to sustainability, because provide diverse products and play
an important role in environment service. The objective of this study was to understand consumers’
demands for stingless bee products in Tefé to contribute to the conservation of native
bees and to the development of honeybee production in the region. Questionnaires were
applied with 115 consumers from Tefé. All participants affirmed that they are familiar with native
bees and consume their honey, however, results of other bee products were not as expressive,
possibly due to the lack of information on their utility. The majority part of people stated that
they would prefer to purchase directly from a producer, guaranteeing a hygienic product, and
helping the environment. They could pay R$48,00 per liter as a fair price. In conclusion, the
native honeybee products has a relevant potential in the regions and it’s possible to improve its
market space with some strategies presented in this study.
