Abstract

Rural communities are closely linked to the use of medicinal plants because of their availability,
the accumulated knowledge of ancestors and most often the only resource available for the treatment
of diseases. The present study had as objective to investigate the ethnobotanical knowledge
of the inhabitants of the community Pinga, belonging to the municipality of Santa Luzia,
PB. The survey was carried out from semi-structured questionnaires with 19 residents. Twenty
six medicinal species were cited. Among the diseases most cited: cough, with 15.38%, in which
the indicated plants were saião, mastruz, cumaru and angico; Inflammation representing
15.38% in which indications were umburana, cashew, pomegranate and plum. The most used
vegetative parts are the peels, with 10 species (38.46%), leaves 9 units (34.61%), and bark and
leaves 3 (11%). Several forms of use (water immersion, tea, licker, infusion) were identified,
however the most mentioned methods of preparation were water immersion 46% and tea 31%.
