Abstract

Manihot (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is intended for many uses, mainly for food and feed. Various
researches on this crop have been developed, however, rarely in conjunction with farmers’
knowledge. The objective of this work is to characterize from the local knowledge the
manioc plantations of the agrovila Luiz Duarte de Castanhal / PA. It is a qualitative research,
data were collected through participant observation and structured and semi-structured interviews.
In the survey carried out, it was verified that 13 different varieties of cassava are cultivated
in the agrovila, the orchards are produced artisanly and with family labor. It is concluded
that the cassava routs are important for the family farmers families of the agrovila Luiz Duarte,
because besides being the main source of income for the farmers, it is one of the main food
components of the families studied.
