Abstract

The objective of this work is to characterize cassava varieties cultivated by family farmers and
to identify root rot tolerance and productivity from local knowledge. This study is qualitative
and data collection was carried out structured and semi-structured interviews with twelve family
farmers living in the community Luiz Duarte, Castanhal Pará, In the period from June 21
to September 8, 2015. For the treatment of the data was used program Microsoft Office Excel
2007.The survey resulted in thirteen varieties Manivão, Olho roxo, Olho verde, Pacajá amarela,
Pacajá branca e Paulo Velho), Being that the varieties more tolerant to the attack of root rot
are são olho roxo, Paulo velho, guajurú e a macaxeira. However the good productivity characteristics
is key in the choice of variety, the more cultivated varieties are cearencinha, jurará,
caravela e Paulo velho.
