Analysis of previous knowledge of family farmers residing in Altaneira / CE city on agroecology and use of pesticides

Abstract

Agroecology is a new approach to agriculture that integrates agronomic, ecological and socioeconomic
aspects into the effects and assessments of agricultural techniques on food production
and society as a whole. The objective of this work is to analyze the previous knowledge of
family farmers living in the municipality of Altaneira / CE on agroecology and the use of pesticides.
The necessary data were obtained through a questionnaire applied in October 2015
with the participation of twenty-seven family farmers. With the application of the questionnaires
it was possible to verify that the majority of the farmers of this community do not have basic
knowledge on agroecology. It was also observed that a good part of the farmers use alternative
pesticides in their plantations, thus, seeking a healthy interaction between the agrosystems.
