Studies on the knowledge and use of natural resources by local populations, as well as the
impacts of their practices on biodiversity are fundamental. In this work, the objective of this
study was to evaluate people’s knowledge about medicinal plants in Paraiba cities. The interviews
were carried out in the municipalities Lagoa Seca, São Sebastião de Lagoa de Roça,
Alagoa Nova, Matinhas and Campina Grande, carrying out questionnaires with 40 people,
being analyzed based on descriptive statistical analysis and presented in percentage. Most
(77%) of the interviewees are women who frequently use medicinal plants, due to their effectiveness,
price and ease, the most cited were lemon grass, holy grass and boldo. Thus, all the
interviewees have already used medicinal plants as medicinal purposes, using them daily and
popular knowledge about medicinal plants and their therapeutic uses is quite broad, but it must
be used in the correct dosage and reason.
