Abstract

An important mechanism to enforce family farming are short circuits of commercialization,
especially concerning fair-trades. In this regard, Chapeco accounts with 10 fair-trades, where
conventional and agroecological famers sell their products. Therefore, this study aims to
analyze the profile of family farmers who negotiate their products at municipal fair-trades. For
primary data of the research, 15 farmers were interviewed, that is, 9 conventional and 6 agroecological
farmers. Results shows that theagroecological farmers usually work a longer daily
period on the activity. Thus, these farmers also use a greater area to produce horticultural
cropsand thus sell a higher variety of products on local fairs.
