Cold storage of yacon rhizophore; viability and quality for seedling formation

Storage of plant propagating organs in low temperature conditions, it is a widely used technique.
However, the time and storage conditions will be directly dependent of the species, organ,
mass, physiological stage and specific interest in the process. The objective of this study was
to evaluate the influence of time in cold storage in yacon rhizophores, planted in two containers
with different volumetric capacity in the budding uniformity, quality and viability in seedling
formation. The results showed that, the use of containers of 280 cm3 is more suitable than the
use of 110 cm3 containers, for the production of yacon seedlings, due to higher growth speed
and lower mortality rate. With cold storage it is possible to maintain the rhizophores viability
and quality for seedling formation. Besides that, may influence the uniformity and initial growth
of seedlings.
