With the aim of promoting the propagation of agroecological knowledge and organic production
in the urban environment, the project “Organic garden: a green initiative for the future”, developed
between November 2015 and October 2016 by IFSULDEMINAS - campus Inconfidentes,
in partnership with The ROCHA Foundation was based on the creation of an urban vegetable
garden with the objective of producing vegetables, medicinal herbs and spice plants. This project
was conceived with a double objective: to allow the creation of a space to present to the
students of the municipality of Inconfidentes the techniques of organic production in urban environment
and also to donate the production of vegetables grown in the garden to the Felipe dos
Santos State School, belonging to the municipality of Inconfidentes-MG. The project had the involvement
and support of the group of studies in entomology and agroecology Raiz do Campo,
linked to the IFSULDEMINAS - campus Inconfidentes, working in the collaboration of selection
of species, cultivation and management of the garden, besides cooperating in the activities
of presentation of the garden to the student community of the municipality. It was possible to
achieve the proposed goals established in the project since the garden became a space for environmental
education and propagation of organic practices for children who visited the space.
