Abstract

This work has as main objectives designing and developing actions that lead to a complete
utilization in pitaya cultivation produced at Santa Cruz Huiziltepec, Puebla, México. This actions
will allow substantially lower (and possibly eliminate) problems related to conservation,
transformation, postharvest damage, damage for climate factors and environmental problems
resulting culture y commercialization of fruit. In progress are following actions: a) substrate
design to obtain Pleurotus ostreatus using pitaya thorns and other residues from de cutivation,
b) Pitaya pulps preparation and stabilization using fruit which it was not sold and c) preparation
and characterization of compost using as substrate pitaya peels. With this investigation seek
to combat enviromental problems in this región and generate alternative auto employment in
this place where much of the population has migrated (US migration) to seek better job opportunities
and improve their lives.
