Houses of seeds: An strategy to conservation of the criole seeds in settlements in the Maranhão state

This report aims to show the importance of the houses of seed as a strategy for conservation
of creole seeds in rural settlements in the state of Maranhão. It was implanted six houses of
seeds in rural settlements of Rosário, Cachoeira Grande and Morros with the management of
six guardians of seeds. The role of the houses of seeds is interconnected with family ties and
with the identity with the communities.In accordance with the guardians, the houses of seeds
provide trade and seed multiplication, furthermore, the criole seeds are healthy, clean, allows
a market freedom and have identity.
