Life in the soil: the knowledge building experience in the rural area of Rio Pomba

Abstract

The workshops with the main theme “Vida no Solo” (Life in the Soil) were given during the first
part of “Mutirão de Saberes”, wich happened among the rural communities around the town
of Rio Pomba, located in the region of Zona da Mata, state of Minas Gerais. Their goal were
to strengthen relationships between the Federal Institute of Southeastern Minas Gerais – Rio
Pomba Campus (IF Sudeste MG - R.P.) and the region farmers, as well as to enable a space
for knowledge exchange and Agroecology foment. Those workshops had their main theme
dismembered as: ecological management, microbiology, conservation practices and soil diagnosis.
They happened at five different communities and were presented by Tutorial Education
Program students from IF Sudeste MG, supported by members of “Mãos à horta” prosumer
network. Those meetings made possible the reflection and consciousness-raising of the participants
about the need of soil life conservation through its ecological management.
