Characterization of stores that sell organic food in Belém of Pará

The objective of this research was to investigate organic commercial stores in Belém / PA,
aiming at a comprehensive characterization in different dimensions articulated with the discussions
about alternative food networks. The decision on the object of this research came after
contact with discussions that demonstrated the transformations that have been occurring in
the ways of feeding all over the world, especially in large cities, which involves the substitution
of in natura foods for foods composed of industrialized products . These changes result not
only in the imbalance in the supply of nutrients and the contamination by certain substances
associated with the growing cases of cancer and obesity, but also have repercussions on the
forms of agricultural production, supply and creation of income opportunities for family farmers
. The research results point to a variety of reasons for the creation of stores that sell organic
products, constituting a potential supply strategy with agroecological foods, especially for those
stores with a strong link with social movements.
