The Brazilian rural extension is still governed by the principles of the green revolution. However,
the format of a “new” ATER in the country has been redisplayed. The objective of this work
was to assist the member farmers of the Rural Workers Union of Queimadas - PB, through
participative methodologies. Mobilization and training meetings were held with farmers. Then,
exchange visits were made to exchange experiences and reflections among farmers. Diagnostic
visits were also carried out with the objective of obtaining information about the potentialities
and difficulties of the properties, and finally, meetings were held to plan the actions and
subsequently their tours. In this way, it is recognized the importance of monitoring families and
agroecological planning actions in family farming communities to achieve economic, environmental
and social sustainability.
