Abstract

Mass selection is an older and more used breeding technique because it is a simple and easy
technique. The aim of the work was to propose alternatives to increase genetic progress and
training of community seed banks. The experiment was carried out in the Venice Settlement
in Pilões - PB, in two stages in the first stage, were taken and post-planting of the cultivars, in
the second stage, carried out a harvest, mass selection and grain storage. The planting was
carried out jointly by farmers, students, teachers and technicians. The plan was elaborated in
level chorus, with maize and fava planted consorciados in the same pit, or beans was planted
in rows of doubles between the rows of maize. In the soil, biofertilizer was applied as a source
of nutrients, produced by the community. The multiplication field represents a sovereignty that
feeds the community without a process of popular and autonomous construction of families.
