Abstract

The present work refers to an experience report, whose objective is to evaluate the feasibility of
the recovery of the Permanent Preservation Areas (APP), through the implementation of Agroforestry
Systems (SAFs), as an option to meet the requirements imposed by the New Forest
Code and maintaining the farmer’s profitability. The aim of this study was to identify the best
strategy and methodology for the recovery of APP, in a family-based rural property located in
the municipality of Santa Maria de Jetibá / ES, Brazil, without socioeconomic damage to the
family farmer and Environmental function of the APP. The economic losses of the family farmer
were measured and compensation proposals were made within the production of an SAF. The
results showed that it is possible to recover PPAs and gradually and sustainably restore the
loss of income from the environmental adequacy of a family-owned property by the end of the
5th year.
