Revitalization of a medicinal herb garden in Nova Palmeira city - Paraiba

Abstract

The present work aims to present the revitalization experience of the garden of medicinal
plants of the Center for Popular Education (CENEP), located in Nova Palmeira/PB, based on
exchanges of experience between the entity’s officials, region farmers and teachers and students
of the course of Agroecology Universidade Estadual da Paraíba Agroecology course.
Were prepared economic flowerbed, medicinal species seedlings, a compost and in addition,
were made prunings and improvements in the flowerbed. Per producing and distributing medicinal
plants and herbal medicines to the local population, CENEP needs support from the
public authorities, farmers and educational institutions. This interaction is important to promote
the knowledge exchange among the most different segments of society, besides contributing
to the dialogue in the construction of agroecological knowledge and to the advancement of
the role of universities, in particular the Agroecology course, in support of social responsibility
actions and local development.
