Ethnobotany and food sovereignty: a promotion of dialogue in northern Minas Gerais

This paper presents a reflection on the activities of a set of university extension projects that
were carried out in interface with ethnoecological researches, together with four traditional
communities in the north of Minas Gerais. The objective of this report is to analyze the developments
achieved through these projects, as well as to analyze the potentials that the methodologies
used have to contribute to the construction of agroecological knowledge in the territories
and in the universities. The elaboration of didactic materials and technical reports required by
the communities encouraged on topics relevant to the practices of the communities allowed
important reflections on the elaboration of research more in line with social needs to contribute
with more socially appropriate results. This type of research supports too important formative
processes in the trajectory of the university in formation.
