Theoretical essay on the challenges of Agroecology as a new science and its role in a changing world

Abstract

Based on literature and inferences, this theoretical essay aims to propose a reflection to Agroecology
scientists/researchers on the challenges of this new science and the importance of
its strengthening to support diverse, clean and fair agrifood systems. Challenges such as conceptual
confusion and excessive theorizing need to be overcome to strengthen Agroecology
within a new conception of science, for which even the epistemological basis are still under
construction. Such strengthening of Agroecology will be reflected on its scientific-social function,
contributing to its increasingly relevant role in this changing world.
