Abstract

The present report presents observations made at a family production unit located in the Jardim
do Mina community, in the municipality of Matias Barbosa, in the Zona da Mata of Minas
Gerais. It reports the experiences in the management of lychee orchard, where some principles
of agroecology were adopted, such as the increase of tree species consorted with the
main culture and the management of spontaneous species in the agricultural landscape. The
adoption of these principles resulted in phytosanitary improvements, reducing the need for
external inputs and even eliminating the use of pesticides. Other important factors were the
increase of organic matter in the soil and the increase in productivity, leading to improvements
in income and in the quality of life of the family
