Abstract

The present work had as objective to evaluate the effect of the different substrates in the production
of lettuce, on the characteristics of the performance and quality of the seedlings. The
experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with 10 treatments (five
substrates: commercial substrate, substrate sand / straw / manure, substrate Sand / straw / humus,
Commercial substrate / straw / manure and substrate / straw / humus, and two varieties of
American lettuce delight and Regina summer “smooth”) and 4 replicates, duration of 30 days.
The following parameters were evaluated: emergence speed index , germination percentage ,
leaf number , shoot height and seedling colony diameter of different varieties of Depending on
the different substrates. Commercial substrate and substrate Sand / straw / humus provided
higher growth of lettuce seedlings independent of the cultivar used.
