Abstract

Most of the beekeepers of Paraíba do not receive technical assistance, hindering the productivity
and the reach of a better income. Thus, the objective of this study was to diagnose apiculture
in the Brejo Paraibano micro-region, identifying the problems of beekeepers in family
agriculture and to be able to help in some way. The eight municipalities of the brejo Paraibano
(Alagoa Grande, Alagoa Nova, Areia, Bananeiras, Borborema, Matinhas, Pilões and Serraria)
were visited and only one beekeeper was found in the municipality of Pilões. Farmers in other
cities reported that they stopped raising stinged bees because they had small properties, lacked
support, and needed training to continue this work. The bee represents a large part of
the pollinating insects and agricultural productivity depends on it, and this decrease in bee
production will be the same in agricultural production.
