Knowledge of the students of the farming technical course on agroecology

Abstract

As opposed to the conventional food production system, there is a growing concern by the
population to consume healthy foods produced in agroecological systems with the aim of providing
better living conditions. Thus, a research was carried out in order to verify the perception
of the students of the 2nd year of high school of the Colégio Agrícola Vidal de Negreiros
- CAVN of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), in relation to the experience in the field,
agroecology and related subjects. The research was conducted in April 2017, from a semi-structured
questionnaire applied to students, from the second year of high school. Through the
results, it was observed that the age group of the students is between 16 and 18 years, 74% of
the students interviewed present relations with the field, however. In addition, many are unaware
of some agroecological rural producers and believe that the agriculture of the future will be
fully mechanized and recognize the damages caused by the use of agrochemicals. In this way,
it is necessary that agroecology is more present in the classroom, since the region to which the
students interviewed are inserted has its main economic source family farming.
