With this research, developed between 2015 and 2016, in 40 rural properties, the objective was
to know the state of the art of agroforestry systems (AFSs) in agroecological bases in Brazil
western region. The data inherent in the AFSs were collected through interviews with each
family responsible for systems, basing on a semi-structured script composed of open and closed
questions. The AFSs were found to be are situated on small properties; most located near
residences, are arranged in lines and occupy up to 25% of the property areas. Food production
is the main focus, but income generation and environmental restoration are also relevant. All
AFSs are young, up to 16 years of planting. The predominant forms of implantation and designs
used are through the maintenance of tree species, selective management of new trees;
planting of tree seedlings in medium density and enrichment with seeds.
