Abstract

The objective of the work was to establish a demonstration unit for composting at UFRA and
the Jutaí community in Santárem Novo. The composting process was done in UFRA, by the
students and teachers of the institution. The organic materials were: rice straw, acai lumps,
dried teak leaves. For the creation of the UDs, in the community of Jutaí in Santarém Novo, a
meeting was held to identify possible materials for the implantation of UDs. Considering the
observed data, it can be concluded that the mixture of organic remains, such as teak leaf,
rice straw, açaí stone, and soy residue, is a promising alternative for the production of organic
fertilizers to be used in family agriculture , Just as it becomes an alternation to take advantage
of organic waste, leaving it to be urban waste. As for the visit to the community of Jutaí in
Santárem Novo, farmers were encouraged and took advantage of the implementation of the
composting UDs.
