Keywords:
Creole seeds, Lactuca sativa L., agroecological systemsAbstract
The use of creole seeds is important in family farming, since they are materials that have not
undergone genetic improvement, being used by traditional communities. In the production of
seedlings in agroecological systems it is common for farmers to create their own substrate, due
to the high cost of commercial substrates. The studies’s objective was evaluate four varieties
of Creole Lettuce in an alternative substrate composed of soil based substrate, bovine manure
and eagle fern (Pteridium aquilinum) (2:1:1). The experiment was conducted at IFES - Campus
Santa Teresa, experimental design in ICD with 4 treatments and 6 replicates, each with a
Creole variety: Fish tail (T1), Light green smooth (T2), Alagoano 1 (T3) and Alagoano 2 (T4).
The Emergency Velocity Index (IVE), Seedling Emergency Percentage (PEP) and Mean Time
of Emergency (TME) were evaluated. The varieties Alagoano 2 and Light green smooth were
the ones that stood out in all evaluated variables.
