The aim of this study was to analyze the abundance and diversity of macroinvertebrates found
in different rice cultivation systems (conventional and organic) in the Pampa Biome. For this,
we sampled two crops, organic and conventional rice, located in Alegrete/RS. The samplings
were taken with net, to a depth of 10 cm of the ground. The identification of the macroinvertebrates
until the taxonomic level of family. We found 1,262 individuals. The organic culture system
represented 81.9% of the total abundance of the individuals, while in the conventional one
only 18.1%. There was greater diversity in the conventional system, due to the low equitability
in the organic system since there was a high dominance of Chironomidae. Knowledge of the
macrofaune associated to rice crops can contribute to actions that allow sustainable economic
and social development, emphasizing the preservation of the species of this biome.
