Abstract

Economic strategies emerge as a result of the complexity of the agricultural activity of family
farming. This paper focused on the analysis of two systems of the same family farming unit:
milk production in conventional basis and horticulture in ecological basis. It justifies the work,
the importance of the economic evaluation of the ecological production base as a contribution
to its management and social reproduction. Agrarian System Analysis and Diagnosis has been
used to study the factors of production: land, capital and labor. The main results were the visualization
of a higher profitability from the horticulture system, but lower workforce, capital and
remuneration. Finally, lack of remuneration for domestic work, succession of the family farming
and few marketing channels, reinforce the necessity to lead to a public policies discussion for
brazilian rural development.
