The systematization of Agroforestry Systems – SAFs developed by small familiar farmers present
in settlements and rural communities distributed in 12 counties in the Bico do Papagaio-TO
region. With the support of the APA-TO, starting in 2001, farmers in the region are developing
SAFs with the aim of diversifying and guaranteeing the production and conservation of natural
resources. The process of training, evaluating and generating new knowledge improved the
management practices, and contributed to the redefinition of the locations to implement the
SAFs, resulting in the diversification of production and consequently increasing the food availability
and income, mostly by improving the products and increasing the marketing options.
