This experience report describes activities of non-formal environmental education developed
by the Center of Studies in Agroecology and Organic Production of the Southern Spirit, with
professors and students of the Ifes-Campus de Alegre. The activity proposed to identify the
causes and consequences of the socioenvironmental degradation in the region of Caparaó-ES
and to guide the mitigating measures of these consequences. In order to achieve the objectives,
multidisciplinary activities such as lectures, agroecology events, technical visits to the
farmers’ fair, agroecological sites and research and extension institutions were carried out. In
a second phase, awakened by agroecological knowledge and the non-formal environmental
education process, students planted the corn landrace seeds acquired, tended, harvested and
delivered the seeds multiplied to family farmers, contributing proactively to collaborative action
in local changes needed.
