The Ecoa actions in the construction of agroecology

Abstract

The Rural Education and Agroecological Nucleus of the Federal University of Viçosa has its
roots in the agroecological movement of Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, that started in in the
1970s, through the student groups, professors, researchers, farmers’ organizations and the
Center of Alternative Technology of Zona da Mata. The Nucleus develops several actions, which
are carried out following the principles of the rural education and agroecology. Among the
actions are agroecological meetings (based on the peasant to peasant methodology), agroecological
and solidary economy fairs, knowledge exchange meetings, cultural meetings, Agroecological
and Cultural Caravans, among others. All these actions aim to promote the dialog of
different knowledge and to strength the rural education and agroecology. The present article
aims to describe and reflect on the actions carried out by the Nucleus.
